Johnny Allen was a neighbor of the Pruitt family. He owned a dog that was stolen by Alice Ribbons to use as a distraction for passersby and authorities in order to allow Peter Beaupre to rob houses unnoticed so as to find a highly-priced classified missile-cloaking chip that they acquired but lose at San Francisco Airport.
While staying home from school due to chickenpox, Alex Pruitt spied on the neighborhood and saw Alice having Johnny's dog. When he saw Petr Beaupre robbing the vacant Stephen house, Alex called the police and reported to his mother on what he witnessed. Because the Beaupre quartet are able to cover their tracks, the police dismiss this as false alarm.
