Mitch Murphy was a child in the Murphy family, living across the street from the Winnetka McCallister family.

Biography[]

For their Christmas vacation, the Murphys were heading to Orlando, Florida but would make a stop in Missouri to pick up Mitch's grandmother. The McCallisters, on the other hand, were to travel to Paris, France.[1]

On the day of the McCallisters' departure, Mitch noticed their rush and visited the McCallister residence to see what was going on. Upon arrival, he introduced himself to one of the airport van drivers loading the McCallisters' luggage and asked him if he was going out of town. The talkative Mitch then revealed his vacation trip and asked the driver all sorts of questions about the vans, if he knew the McCallisters were going to France and whether it was cold there. The driver responded that he does not know any of it and ordered Mitch to leave. Mitch then climbed into the second van, asking its driver questions including how fast the van went or if it had four-wheel drive. The driver of this van instructed Mitch not to bother him and to leave.[1]

As the McCallisters lined up for a headcount, Mitch inspected one of their suitcases, finding a camera and using it to take a picture of the inside of the van. Because he had his back turned toward her, Kevin's cousin Heather accidentally counted Mitch in the group of heads, thinking he was Kevin (who had been left inside the McCallister home, asleep in the attic) and did not realize her mistake. After looking through the suitcase, Mitch finally exited the van and told the McCallisters to have a good trip and to bring him back something French. He then returned home and eventually left with his family for their own holiday trip.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Jeffrey Wiseman, who plays Mitch Murphy, originally auditioned for the role of Kevin McCallister, which ultimately went to Macaulay Culkin.
  • According to Kevin, he lives at 656 Lincoln Boulevard.
  • The Peter look-alike in the sequel, Lost in New York, plays a similar role to that of Mitch Murphy, as both characters are mistaken for a family member due to the identical clothing that they wear (the winter hat in Mitch's case) and they sported similar hairstyles and builds. However, the Peter look-alike gets in Kevin's way when they make a dash for their flights at the airport while Mitch Murphy was in the McCallister family's way in their residence during the headcount.
