Petr[1] or Peter[2] Beaupre was the leader of a group of international spies.
Petr, along with Alice Ribbons, Burton Jernigan, and Earl Unger, stole a valuable missile cloaking computer chip for a North Korean terrorist group.
Biography[]
In Hong Kong, Beaupre talked to Mr. Chou about the $10 million US missile cloaking chip. He later drove his car to a harbor in Silicon Valley, California to meet the man he made a deal with to acquire the missile chip. After he got the device, he remarked that air defenses could stop a missile if the chip was inserted. The man asked for his money and got it from Burton Jernigan and Earl Unger. Getting in the same car with Alice Ribbons, he ordered her to hide the chip inside a remote-controlled toy car in order to bypass it through airport security at San Francisco International Airport.[1]
While at the airport, Beaupre and his team walked through the hallway and got their package with the toy car scanned. However, a lady in front of Beaupre and Alice was told to remove her jewelry, forcing the two thieves to wait. Unknown to them, a woman, Greta Hess, accidentally took the bag with the toy car. They did not realize this until Alice took Mrs. Hess's bag, put it against her chest, and opened it, revealing loaves of sourdough bread. Beaupre went to check which planes were boarding and leaving while his team went to look for their bag. When they reported that they had not found it, Beaupre said it had to be on the plane that was headed to Chicago, Illinois, which they took much to Unger's dismay, as he packed for a tropical climate.[1]
When the plane landed in Chicago, Beaupre and Alice watched as everyone got off the plane, waiting to see who had their bag. When Mrs. Hess got her scarf from her bag, Alice saw the car and called to Beaupre, who then called to Unger and Jernigan. They followed Mrs. Hess throughout the airport but were unable to stop her from leaving when Alice saw her getting into a taxi. After Jernigan took a picture of the cab, they found the taxi driver at a taxicab parking lot. As Jernigan and Unger questioned the driver, they learned that Mrs. Hess lived on North Devon Park, Washington Street in a "big, old tudor" place with Christmas lights, a reef on the door, and a driveway that had not been shoveled. However, when they got there, they noticed that all of the houses looked exactly what the driver described. Beaupre decided to search for the toy car in every house in broad daylight since nobody was home during the day.[1]
The next day, Alice wore a disguise and got the team a house. Next, Beaupre took pictures of the houses while Jernigan hacked into the power and Unger stole a neighbor's dog that Alice was assigned to. Then, Beaupre broke into the Stephans' house while his team was on the lookout. Unknown to them, a boy named Alex Pruitt saw Beaupre through his telescope and called the police, but Beaupre and his team fled before the police arrive. Later that night, Alice wondered what went wrong with the Stephans' burglar alarm, but Beaupre said it wasn't their alarm and Unger asked who called the police. Alice thought they could have a watcher on any house in any street, but Beaupre believed it was someone on their street who they were not tracking.[1]
The next day, after Mrs. Hess left, Beaupre broke into her house to look for the car. When he looked into the closet, he spotted the same bag from the airport. He opened it, but did not find the toy car. As he kept looking for it, Alice reported the police were coming after Alex called them again. Beaupre told his team to evacuate. When the police arrived, Beaupre hid in the basement ceiling and escaped.[1]
Eventually Beaupre and the others realized that the car was in possession of Alex who is home alone, and that the child's house was in the proximity of the other houses they were searching. After finding Mrs. Hess and gagging and tying her up in her garage, they set off to his house to retrieve the car. Alex, however had known they were onto him and had cleverly laid some booby traps for them, which they spring, giving them serious injuries. Beaupre is taken aback by Alex's defenses and also admires the boy's courage when his mother Karen Pruitt calls to check in on him and he tells her not to return home, so as not to put anyone else in danger. He decides to go back to Mrs. Hess's garage to wait for Alex in case he eludes them.
Alex does indeed elude the other three, leaving Unger and Jernigan trapped in a frozen pool and Alice stuck in a dumbwaiter shaft in the basement, and goes back to rescue Mrs. Hess. Beaupre comes out of his hiding place, startling Alex and tells him he will now pay the price for being a good citizen. He grabs the toy car and after seeing that the chip is no longer inside, demands that Alex give it to him, but the boy bravely refuses. Beaupre pulls out a Glock and makes his demand again, threatening to gun him down. But Alex realizes that he picked up one of his toy's guns by mistake whilst in the house and tells a bewildered Beaupre that it isn't his and then scares him away with what appears to be his real gun but is actually another toy.
Whilst the other criminals were caught, Beaupre sought refuge in a snow fort. Alex's parrot rode the remote control car into the snow fort and threatened to light fireworks, which were lined around the inside. Beaupre offered a cracker, but the parrot demanded two. Since he only had one, the parrot lit the fireworks and fled. Beaupre was discovered and arrested.[1]
In jail, Petr, who had contracted chicken pox from Alex, took his mugshot with the other criminals, who all also contracted Alex's chicken pox.[1]
Personality[]
Petr Beaupre was the leader of his three comrades. Although he sometimes acted like a gentleman, Beaupre was ultimately cold-hearted and cruel. He was also very intelligent. For example, he correctly suspected that Alex Pruitt's toy car was watching and recording him and was able to outsmart Alex twice. Beaupre was also hot-tempered as shown when Alice informed him that she lost the car and when he saw that the chip was not in the toy car. Beaupre was also known to be sneaky; as Agent Stuckey put it, he and the FBI had been hunting Beaupre for seven years, but Beaupre always managed to slip away.[1]
Beaupre also seemed to enjoy committing murder. For example, he went back into the Alcott house, thinking there was a woman inside after Alex prank called him. Also, he took Alex's coat off of Mrs. Hess, to let her die in the cold. He even threatened to kill Alex if he did not give him the chip, not knowing that the gun Alex had was fake. Despite all this, Beaupre had a degree of cowardice, as when Alex pointed the gun to scare him away and the parrot lit up the fireworks inside Alex's igloo.[1]
Beaupre appeared to have some respect for Alex. This is demonstrated when he eavesdropped on Alex contacting his mother and preventing her from returning home for her safety. He acknowledged Alex by calling him a "brave, little fellow."
Beaupre seemed to be afraid of failing Mr. Chou as it would mean his nullification (death) as well as all of the other participants.
Trivia[]
- As said by Stuckey, he and his group have been working for a North Korean terrorist organization.
- He's somewhat in a relationship with Alice.
- As of the time of his arrest, he had been wanted by the FBI for 7 years, which links this film to the first film.
- He is the first villain to get spray painted as a booby trap. As a result, the black line of paint over his eyes forms a faux "domino mask", ironically giving him the appearance of a stereotypical cartoony criminal.
- During the invasion of the house, Alice wears an all-white jumpsuit, Earl and Burton wear snow camo hunting coveralls, and Petr wears a black outfit with a brown vest. While this makes little practical sense (being the only one not to wear an outfit that blends with the snow), it was likely done to make him stand out as the leader of the group.
- Petr is the only Home Alone villain to set a trap for the main character.
- Beaupre speaks American English. But in the scene where he corners Alex and takes apart the toy car to discover the chip missing, he yells to Alex in Polish. This implies that he is an American citizen of Polish heritage.
- The actor who plays him, Aleksander "Olek" Krupa is Polish.
- This is similar to Marv Murchins, who is Jewish, much like his actor Daniel Stern.
- Due to his surname, it is also implied that he is also of French descent.
- In Home Alone 2, Marv apologizes to a woman in French.
- The actor who plays him, Aleksander "Olek" Krupa is Polish.
- The Polish line he yelled at Alex during the latter's attempt to rescue Mrs. Hess, 'Rozgniotę cię jak karalucha, gdzie jest dysk?!', means "I'm gonna crush you like a cockroach. Where's the chip?".
- According to his FBI file, Beaupre is 5'11" tall and weighs 175 pounds with green eyes. Nothing else, however, is known about him, not even his date of birth or country of birth or even family.
- The spelling of Beaupre's first name is inconsistent: his FBI file shows it spelled as "Peter" while his mugshot slate spells it "Petr."
- Beaupre was the only Home Alone villain to be defeated by an animal. He was arrested when parrot blew up his cabin with fireworks, just as Marley used a shovel to stun Harry and Marv, and Pigeon Lady used pigeon group to attack Harry and Marv.
