Home Alone Wiki

While running late for a “get-together,” a man dressed as Santa Claus was approached by Kevin McCallister, who asked him to tell the real Santa Claus to bring his family back for Christmas. Kevin knew that he wasn’t the real Santa the whole time since he is old enough to know how it works but he is one of Santa's helpers.

He seemed confused as to why Kevin’s family would be missing in the first place, but to be kind, and to keep up the Christmas spirit, he kindly told Kevin that he would see what he could do. Then he was kind enough to humor Kevin, admitting his elf had taken the last of the candy canes home to her boyfriend; when Kevin said that was all right, the man replied, “No, no, no, no, don’t be silly. Everyone who sees Santa’s gotta get... something.” He then gave Kevin some Tic Tacs. After giving them to Kevin, he warned him not to spoil his dinner. Kevin assured him he wouldn’t and thanked him.

He had been really upset since, just as Kevin caught up with him, he’d been given a parking ticket for illegal parking (as he’d tried to shake it off, then leave).

Then as Kevin walked away and the man was about to drive away, the car broke down, much to his chagrin; he said “Son of a—” before hitting the dashboard.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Chris Farley auditioned for the role, but Chris Columbus recalled that Farley had not slept the night before and the audition did not go particularly well.[2]
  • As he leaves Santa's Village, his car stalls and he says, "Son of a...". This is unscripted and the car really did stall; this was kept in the final cut.[3]
  • Another impersonator appeared in Home Sweet Home Alone, portrayed by Nick Allan.
  • In the original script, Kevin meets "Santa" at a department store, which is about to close. "Santa" also has candy canes, but Kevin refuses one because he does not want to spoil his dinner, baffling "Santa."
